Brightly colored chew toys, dog beds that solely focus on function… it’s easy to assume your furry family member’s favorite things can cramp your interior design style. However, a number of renowned designers have confirmed that there are plenty of surprisingly chic dog-friendly items that can add to your thoughtfully crafted space.
And we’re not just talking about dog beds and toys (though there are some in here!)—designers weigh in on specific, easier-to-clean upholstery and decor that are better for unpredictable spills, scratches, and more from beloved pups.

Chicory Modular Teak Outdoor Sofa
“We love our furry family, but they are the hardest on our interiors. I have often found that using fabrics made for outdoors or commercial use is the secret weapon,” says award-winning luxury interior designer Anita Lang, founder of IMI Design. “Don’t be scared; it doesn’t mean scratchy or sandpaper textures. Fiber technology has come so far that you often cannot tell the difference in the feel of a textile. We are talking about soft bouclé and premier velvet, which are luscious to the touch yet can be cleaned with bleach if needed.”
This sofa from Chicory, for instance, has a teak frame and “alfresco bouclé” upholstery. Most notably, the on-trend weatherproof fabric can be thrown in the washing machine for easy cleaning.

Fukumaru Dog Bed
Amazon has it all, even down to expert-approved dog beds. These textural, under-$50 dog beds were a must for Rachel Brown of RB Interiors when she designed an office space for a home builder and dog owner.
“His dogs are a top priority in his office,” she says. “I love these dog beds. They are plush, durable, easy to clean, and look stylish.”

Sugarboo & Co To My Sweet Darling Floor Pouf
“I’d call it a ‘floor pouf’ for dogs as opposed to a dog bed because unlike most pet furniture, this pouf will actually enhance your cozy aesthetic vibe,” Galey Alix of Galey Alix Design, host of HGTV’s Home in a Heartbeat, and mom to boxers Bair, Patch, and Charlye. “These are a staple accessory throughout my own home and several of my projects.”

To avoid overwashing slipcovers, Clark and her team often recommend pet owners getting an extra piece of fabric to place over the sofa. Their all-time favorite? This performance material is made with 100% solution-dyed acrylic with a classic striped pattern.

PetiFine Chew Toys for Dogs
At long last, a set of dog toys that match your aesthetic. These ones are sold on Amazon and made with 100% natural washable cotton.
“I love curating dog toys to fit the color scheme of the room they’ll be living in,” Alix says. “It’s not always easy to find neutral dog toys as many are vibrant and colorful (despite dogs only being able to see two colors, yellow and blue). This cream-toned rope set is my go-to for my earthy and more neutral toned projects because it’s not plastic, adds texture, and will blend in well even if left out!”

PBTeen Boucle Twill Gravel Modern Bean Bag Lounger
Because your dogs are your children, why not shop for them at PBTeen, too? These bean bags double as dog sleeping beds, which Alix has used in her own home.
“They are elevated bean bags that won’t appear like dog beds but that can certainly function as such,” she says. “They are low enough for pups to climb into and cozy enough to make the perfect sleeping nook for them to curl up in. My dogs give these a 10/10.”
