10 Best Nontoxic Quilts And Coverlets For Fall Bedding (2025)

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

Our editors have researched, slept on, and carefully reviewed each of these nontoxic, organic bedding brands for safety, comfort, and long-lasting durability. These are our favorite brands with nontoxic quilts and coverlets for your bed.

Here’s something I don’t share with everyone: I love top sheets. I love a soft, light layer against my skin while I’m sleeping (preferably linen sheets), and no, I don’t bunch it all up in the middle of the night. I love how easy it makes washing my sheets — I don’t have to perform gymnastics to put a duvet back into its cover every time I wash my linens.

So I love quilts — they provide a layer of breathable warmth over my sheets (and bed blanket or coverlet in the winter) while looking cute and cozy. I tend to sleep hot, so I like how a quilt’s light weight gives my bed more all-season customizability. And I especially love quilts with fun, hand-stitched patterns.

As the weather is getting colder, if you’re in the market for an extra layer to your bedding, we highly recommend a quilt or coverlet made of natural materials like cotton or linen. Natural materials, rather than synthetic ones like polyester, are much more breathable, letting air circulate while still keeping you warm. They soften with time for pieces that’ll last you years and years. You don’t have to worry about natural materials leeching microplastics into the water when you wash them, and they give your bedroom such a luxurious, cozy look. It’s a win-win all around.

Why choose nontoxic and organic bedding?

We choose nontoxic and organic bedding whenever possible because it’s easier on the planet. Cotton and linen are much less polluting to make than synthetic materials, they break down naturally, they don’t shed microplastics, and they’re less harmful to the workers who make them. They also have less potential to give off harmful chemicals like VOCs or PFAS, meaning a cleaner home for you.

What should you look for when shopping for a quilt or coverlet?

When shopping for a quilt or coverlet, we look for natural materials above all else — quilts made of 100% cotton or linen. We also look for certifications that ensure the cotton was grown organically, which uses less water and no synthetic pesticides, like GOTS. We also love quilts that are handmade or made in the US, and we prefer safety standards like Made Safe and OEKO-TEX.

While all the quilts on the below list are made of cotton or linen sheets, some have polyester fills — the only super warm alternative to down. We also look for recycled polyester fills when shopping for quilts, whenever possible. Some listed below do have cotton fills, which makes them nice and lightweight.

Our criteria:

After personally testing, researching, corresponding with brands, and combing through customer reviews, we’ve selected the best natural and organic bedding brands that offer quilts and coverlets for your seasonal bed setup. We update this list regularly with our emerging favorites, and all of our picks are vetted to meet the following criteria.

  • ORGANIC & NONTOXIC | Each brand’s bedding is made of natural or recycled materials like cotton, linen, or Tencel. Each brand has third-party certifications to guarantee consumer safety like GOTS, OEKO-TEX, GREENGUARD Gold, or PFAS-free.
  • ETHICAL, ECO-FRIENDLY, & SUSTAINABLE | Each brand takes care of its employees and the earth, along with its customers. These companies are committed to caring for the environment and to safe labor practices.
  • DURABLE | Quilts and coverlets are quintessential heirloom pieces, so we believe they should be easy to maintain and crafted to last.

Each quilt is made with 100% cotton batting — all the cotton is grown and woven in India.

Customer Review | “This blanket is so soft and lovely. I especially love the colourful stitching and the all natural materials.
