The second season of Meghan Markle’s Netflix show With Love, Meghan delivered with nostalgic snack inspo, visits from a number of celebrity guests, and a peek into the Duchess of Sussex’s immaculate kitchen. And while I won’t be invited to Meghan’s home anytime soon, I considered the spots I could check out on my own. Here and there, she pops into a local bookstore, pottery studio, and even aboard a commercial fisherwoman’s boat.
Below, see all of the details on how you can experience these California destinations, and start planning your next road trip along the coast.
Godmothers in Summerland, California
At the beginning of the third episode, the Duchess of Sussex says, “We are grabbing some books for my new friend, Tan, who’s coming, who has two children. And I thought, ‘Let’s come to my favorite bookstore in town that my friends Jennifer and Victoria created.’”
The bookstore she speaks of is none other than Godmothers, a “bookstore and gathering space” just a short drive from Montecito. Founded by Jennifer Rudolph and Victoria Jackson in 2024, Godmothers is a cultural hub in a renovated three-story barn dating back to the 1920s. You can visit Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can review their calendar of events here.
Ojai Olive Oil in Ojai, California
Episode 5 starts with a visit to this family farm, where Meghan tours the property with owner Phil Asquith, grove manager Tim Lind Arlon, and her friend Jamie Kern Lima. While there, she learns about the more than 2,000 trees and eight different varietals on the property. You can try their olive oil by scheduling a visit to their award-winning tasting room, or find them at the Ojai Farmers Market on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at 300 E. Matilija Street.
Malibu Potteries in Malibu, California
Meghan cruises down the coast in episode 7 to meet her longtime pal Heather Dorak in Malibu. The two friends reminisce during a class at Malibu Potteries, where they’re instructed by owner Rivers Redclay. Kids and adults can take one of Rivers’s group pottery classes, or schedule a private one like Meghan did. P.S. There’s even a class featuring a few special guests: goats!
Jonata Estate in Lompoc, California
Meghan says just about an hour north of her house is this 84-acre vineyard overlooking the Santa Rita Hills. She’s on a mission to secure some wine for her get-together with chef and humanitarian José Andrés, and winemaker Matt Dees guides her through the growing and producing process. You can schedule a special experience on the property, including a tasting in their library or a cozy (and yes, wine-filled) escape in the estate’s Hideaway Room here.
Sea Stephanie Fish in Santa Barbara, California
To pair with her Jonata wine, Meghan is planning to prepare a feast with José, and they rave about Stephanie Mutz’s sustainable fishing practices. Meghan visits the commercial fisherwoman’s boat to learn about sea urchins, and Stephanie guides her through opening one (with a little help from an appropriately named urchin opener). Stephanie’s business Sea Stephanie Fish is based in Santa Barbara and local delivery is available, but you can also check her website for updates on retail markets in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
