My Spice Drawer Supplies

Did you know you can buy a drawer insert to turn any regular kitchen drawer into a spice rack? I’m a fan of all the cabinetry inserts, bells & whistles! If you missed my post on how to install a hidden kitchen trash can, that’s another must-read. These little updates are so simple! Here’s everything I used for my spice drawer:

Step-by-Step
Step 1: Prep and Clean
I started by washing each jar in warm soapy water. I let them dry completely before beginning the filling process.

Step 2: Create Uniform Labels
Using the label maker and your preferred tape color, create labels for each spice. I used black tape for a clean, minimal look that feels timeless. I think consistency is key… one font, one color, so they all match and look cohesive.

Step 3: Fill Your Jars
Using the funnel, fill each jar with the specified spices or seasonings. Then snap on the shaker lid and screw on the top. It’s oddly satisfying, seeing all the colors and textures lined up in glass jars. I like that these jars came with lids for sprinkling. Some of my spices needed this, while others were ok without it.

Step 4: Insert and Arrange
This is where form meets function. Place the spice rack insert in your drawer. Then, you can organize the jars alphabetically, or by category: baking, grilling, herbs, global flavors- if that feels more natural. I ended up alphabetically organizing mine.

Why You’ll Love It
Besides the obvious aesthetic upgrade, this project makes your kitchen instantly more functional. It also makes you feel organized and put together. When I cook, I can see everything at a glance… no mismatched packaging or digging for cinnamon. It’s a five-step DIY that is affordable, looks high-end, and adds customization to your kitchen.

Designer Tip
Match your spice drawer details to your kitchen finishes. Make sure you choose a drawer insert that is matches your drawer box or the interior of your cabinet. Black lids pair beautifully with modern cabinetry; warm wood inserts feel timeless in a classic kitchen. It’s the small details that make it look built-in instead of thrown together.

FAQ
It depends on your space and collection- I used 60 jars to fill two standard drawers.
Drawers keep everything tucked away but visible at a glance and blend seamlessly into your cabinetry for a more elevated, built-in look. I’m team drawer! Do what’s best for your kitchen configuration.
Most ground spices last one to two years; whole spices last up to three.
You can trim wooden inserts or use modular ones that adjust to your drawer’s size- it’s easy and renter-friendly.
