I tried to make my toaster smart with Arduino — it did not go as planned

Smart home appliances have a solid appeal, especially those that go in the kitchen. I’ve been particularly excited about smart toasters, the ones that come with a big touchscreen that you can control remotely and have your breakfast ready before you even walk into the kitchen.
