I’m a Travel Editor and These Are the Shoes I’ll Be Wearing to the Airport All Summer

As a travel editor, I’m on the move constantly—hopping between airports, strolling through vibrant neighborhoods, and clocking miles in on set and around town without looking like I just left the gym. After training for my first half marathon last year, I developed a deep appreciation for good footwear. My Hoka Bondis will always be my go-to for running, but when it comes to sleek, stylish support for long travel days? This summer, the new On Cloudzone is the only shoe I’m packing.

Let’s be sure to get it straight. The Cloudzones wouldn’t cut it as a distance running shoe. They’re much better suited for the street. The black/ice colorway is fashion-forward with all-day comfort. They look just as cute with a monochrome yoga set as they do with a pair of barrel pants and a hoodie.

My maiden voyage in these babies was on one of my classic San Francisco walkabout days going from the Ferry Building up to Pacific Heights, where I easily logged above 20,000 steps. The only time I thought about my feet was when someone gave my shoes a compliment. Everyone from flight attendants to randoms at the wine bar seem to take notice. The breathable mesh upper and low-profile silhouette kept me cool and put-together, even after hours of exploring.

What really sets them apart is the technology tucked beneath that minimalist exterior. On’s signature CloudTec cushioning, combined with Helion™ superfoam, means plush, responsive support with every step. These tennies are cushy but not as bouncy as a Hoka, making them feel super stable and supportive. The integrated Speedboard adds structure and stability, ideal for those unexpected hills or uneven sidewalks. And I love that the upper is made from 100% recycled polyester—function and sustainability in one.

So while my Hokas will be waiting for me for run club and Bay to Breakers, this summer’s travel memories will be made in my On Cloudzones. So if you see someone racing through SEATAC trying to make a connection but in some monochrome sneakers still somehow looking a little stylish, it may well be me.
