I finally updated the bedding in our basement bedroom, and I’m ashamed to admit just how old those sheets were. They were from my college dorm room (17 years ago) and they’d certainly seen better days. I’ve been testing lots of bedding lately, and for this space- I landed on some classic percale options from Brooklinen. I was looking for something crisp, classic, and easy to layer for added warmth. Whether you’re refreshing a guest space, updating your main bedroom, or are just looking to style a tailored, hotel-aesthetic bed, here are my honest thoughts and top Brooklinen picks worth investing in. They’re also having their big sale this weekend… 20% off sitewide with up to 50% off bundles.
If you missed my basement bedroom reveal a couple years ago, that space has come a long way. Even though it’s the smallest bed in our house… oddly, it’s one of our most-used guest bedrooms. Our teenage nieces and nephews usually fight over that space because it’s the only bedroom on the lower level of our home- right next to the media room and basement bathroom. It’s feels very private! Anyway, it was time I finally upgraded the bedding that was older than our teen family members, ha. Here’s what I picked…
Why Brooklinen?
I’m all about mixing and testing different bedding brands so I can share real, tried-and-true recommendations and resources. I hadn’t purchased from Brooklinen in 5-6 years, but remembered it being one of my favorite sheets sets in our previous home. I hopped onto their site and grabbed a couple percale sets on sale in a timeless stripe. The basement bedroom tends to run cooler, which makes it the perfect space to layer bedding. I was excited to style something new and toss my almost 20 year old sheets.

I paired their percale striped sheets with the matching duvet (over a down insert), then I layered on this DreamWeave waffle blanket. Lastly, I folded a faux fur throw I already owned at the foot of the bed for extra warmth. It helped to create a polished, yet cozy look. Stripes are always a good idea, in my opinion!
How Designers Style a Bed

A few quick styling tips if you’re refreshing your bedding this season… keep these in mind:
- Mix different textures (like smooth percale, waffle, faux fur, relaxed linen, brushed flannel, etc) to add depth and contrast.
- Keep your color palette simple… go for neutrals, stripes, or solids that work year-round. I layer the same pieces over and over again.
- Layer from lightest to heaviest: sheets, duvet, blanket, a throw, then your accent pillow.
- Invest in fluffy pillows for a comfortable and tailored look- it can look sloppy when the pillow doesn’t fill out the case.

My Thoughts on Brooklinen
Here are some of my takeaways and standouts from shopping and styling my Brooklinen bedding…
Classic Striped Percale Sheet Set
These are made from 100% long-staple cotton with a 270-thread count… meaning they’re durable, cool, and smooth without feeling crinkly. I love that the subtle stripe adds visual texture while staying neutral enough to work with any bedding palette. They have a lot of nice colors. This set also washed and dried nicely- with very few wrinkles.
Down Duvet & Classic Duvet Cover
Brooklinen’s down duvet is lofty without being heavy. I paired it with a matching striped cover to keep things clean and cohesive. The combination creates that layered, cloud-like look I always go for in cooler rooms. I’m giving this combo a 10/10… it’s a great value for the quality and craftsmanship.
DreamWeave Waffle Blanket
This waffle blanket adds texture, weight, a contrasting color, and dimension to the bed. I ended up folding it beneath the duvet for that relaxed, layered look. It’s the perfect in-between layer… warm and breathable, but not overly bulky.

FAQ
That was a lucky vintage find from Facebook Marketplace!
For the percale sets I bought… I machine washed them on cool, then tumbled them dry on the lowest setting. They dry quickly and resist wrinkling. That’s what I was most impressed with- minimal wrinkles for being cotton!
Of course! It’s actually from my shop. You can find it here: Central Station Studies.
We did! Last year, actually… take a closer look in this post- how to install hardwood flooring in a basement. It had been on our to-do list for a while.

Brooklinen’s bedding really checked all my boxes for this upgrade: quality materials, classic colors & patterns, and something that was low-maintenance and wrinkle-free. I’d definitely recommend giving their percale sheets a try if you’ve been looking for a solid cotton option! I can’t believe I waited so long to swap these sheets. I’m fairly confidence our teenage nieces and nephews probably won’t even notice… but hey- someday they’ll appreciate the finer things. Don’t forget about Brooklinen’s sale this weekend, if you also could use a bedding upgrade!
