Our Editor’s Honest Review Of Nestig’s Wave Crib (2025)

Summary: I chose Nestig’s 3-in-1 Wave Crib for my second daughter’s nursery because I wanted a clean, safe crib that would grow with my daughter. In eight months, we’ve already moved from the mini crib, which we used when she was a newborn, to the full crib. Eventually, she’ll move into the toddler bed configuration (*wipes tears). I adore the design inspired by the ocean and its shifting tides, which perfectly symbolizes the journey of parenting.

What I love:

  • It’s GREENGUARD Gold Certified and made with nontoxic, baby-safe materials. For the years she’ll be sleeping in this bed, we can feel peace knowing she’s not breathing in harmful chemicals.
  • The Wave Crib has a 3-in-1 design. It converts from a mini crib to a full-size crib, and then into a toddler bed. This means it will grow with our child. We won’t need to buy a new bed for each growth spurt, making it a smart long-term investment.
  • The package contains both the full-size crib and toddler conversion kits. When it’s time to convert, all the pieces are ready to go.
  • There are three adjustable mattress heights and wheels! This allows it to move around the room easily, if needed.

Things to keep in mind:

  • The Wave has a mini crib mattress included. But you have to buy the full mattress separately. They do offer a range of standard crib mattresses you can choose from when you’re ready to expand.
  • Nestig creates cribs to order, so it takes about four weeks to receive.
  • The Wave is an investment worth considering. In my view, its quality and conversion ability make it worth the cost — but it is on the higher end for standard cribs.

The ritual of nesting is beautiful for honoring the arrival of your little one, but it’s not always picture-perfect. We didn’t own our house when my first daughter was born so we couldn’t set up a nursery right away. (Read more about that here.) But in preparation for our second, we owned a home and had the freedom to create a nursery before she arrived. We got to paint, redo the floors, lay wallpaper, and set up her Nestig crib.

When it comes to baby furniture and accessories, I’m pretty much a minimalist. I resist the idea from the childcare industry that we need a lot to welcome a baby. Really, your baby just needs you. My homebirth midwife said it best: “You just need a warm blanket, diapers, a few extra clothes, and a cozy spot for you and your baby to sleep.” Despite that sage advice, after having our first baby, I do tend to think that a convertible crib with a good crib mattress are must-haves. While I hate to admit it, kids grow quickly. A crib that adapts helps you avoid the stress of buying new beds.

Babies don’t need much, but a good, nontoxic crib mattress and convertible bed like Nestig’s Wave are essential!

That’s why I adore Nestig. Below, I share more about why they’re my go-to for convertible cribs and all the ins and outs of our experience with the Wave.

About Nestig

Nestig was founded in 2020 and has been committed to a sustainable business of making nursery products with kindness ever since. The brand focuses on taking care of employees while aiming to reduce their carbon footprint and use sustainable materials as much as possible.

Nestig makes all of their furniture to order, so they don’t have a factory where inventory sits. Instead, they operate on a by-order basis out of their family-owned, low-waste factory in Brazil that uses wood harvested from reforested lands along with other thoughtfully sourced materials. Most of their furniture serves many purposes, which extends its life and helps you get the most from your purchase, and their nontoxic focus means it’s safe for your family, too.

Certifications and sustainability

Choosing the right furniture for your growing family can feel daunting so considering the materials used and how they’re made can be a good starting place.

Nestig stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability and safety. They make their cribs from wood that is sustainably sourced and FSC-certified. Several of their designs hold GREENGUARD Gold Certification for low VOC emissions. They also have the JPMA certification, from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, which checks that a product’s safety meets federal, state, ASTM International, and major retailer standards. This certification also tests for VOCs, phthalates, lead, cadmium, and mercury.

“Nestig stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability and safety.”

Nestig also uses water-based, nontoxic finishes, and follow a made-to-order model, which reduces waste and overproduction. Nestig focuses on ethical production, transparent sourcing, and thoughtful design. This approach brings together style, safety, and a commitment to the environment, giving you peace of mind to invest in furniture for your kiddo’s health.

Unboxing and setup

Because Nestig’s furniture is made to order, we patiently awaited the arrival of The Wave. It took about four weeks in total from when the order was first placed to be received. (Keep this in mind when adding to your registry or ordering to have it ready for when your little one comes!)

When the crib shipped, I got an email that stated everything would arrive in two boxes. One box contained what we needed to set up the Mini Crib. The second box included the expansion kit. This kit allows you to convert the crib from mini to full size, and it also supports the toddler conversion. I added organic sheets for the Mini Crib and a matching set for the full crib to our order as well. The company shipped those in a separate box, too.

The day the three boxes arrived, my husband, our baby’s big sister, and I greeted them with lots of excitement! The Mini Crib box was in poor condition, but luckily nothing inside suffered damage.

Then we went to work assembling. The project lasted a couple of hours and needed our full focus. My husband and I tackled it together, while our three-year-old joined in by building forts from the boxes. I was about 32 weeks pregnant when the boxes arrived, so I was grateful to have my husband’s help. Much of the assembly required sitting on the floor or bending down, which is very hard late in pregnancy. My job was to read the instructions while he located the pieces and assembled them. The assembly process was straightforward and easy for us to navigate. The instructions were clear, and all the nuts and bolts were easy to keep organized. We were also impressed by the environmentally friendly packaging and its minimal contents.

The Wave Crib in Natural Wood | $749

I adore Nestig’s crib designs. The cribs are minimalist, yet unique in shape, finishes, and colors. I chose The Wave crib in Natural Wood because of its rounded design. I also love the warm and bright tone of the wood. This crib offers three mattress positions, which is super important. It begins at a higher spot for newborns. Then, it moves to a lower position for crawling and pulling up. You can also remove the wheels that come with it. I loved using this feature once we moved the crib around the room when we converted it to a full.

What excites me about The Wave, beyond its look and functions, is the meticulous craftsmanship involved in its creation. The frame is constructed from Brazilian Pine that is harvested sustainably. The plank that holds the mattress is crafted from eco-engineered wood, which complies with TSCA regulations, and it’s GREENGUARD Gold Certified.

For the first six months, our baby girl co-slept with us at night but had naps in her mini crib. She loved sleeping in her crib for naps. At around six months, the time had come to convert her crib from the mini to the full size. She was getting too big for the mini, and we decided to transition her to sleeping in the crib at night. Going from the mini to full is a drastic size difference. The Mini Crib is 30.25 inches in length, 22 inches in width, and 31 inches in height. Whereas the Full Crib is 54 inches in length, 30.25 inches in width, and 36 inches in height.

“The conversion kit made the transition so easy, though we did have to rearrange her nursery to accommodate the larger crib.”

The conversion kit made the transition so easy, though we did have to rearrange her nursery to accommodate the larger crib. To our shock, she had no issues sleeping at night in her new big crib. One thing we didn’t expect to happen was when our little one started crawling; her legs kept getting caught in the spindles of the crib. We needed to add bumpers to fix that. We also lowered the mattress as she started crawling, with the anticipation of her beginning to pull herself up. Sure enough, she is now pulling herself up to stand in her crib.

My final thoughts

In those moments when you enter your baby’s nursery and see their crib, you feel the miracle of their presence. The crib becomes a symbol of their realness. Even before they’re born, the crib represents a nest that extends outside of the nest within. This simple piece of furniture is foundational to the infant experience, something that you’ll spend so much time peering over, watching them sleep.

Our Wave Nestig Crib is an important staple in our parenting journey this time around — one that has already grown with us. Its held our baby in her early newborn days, and expanded to fit her as we’ve watched her grow. While I never want her to grow up, I know when the special moment comes for converting it into a toddler bed, our Nestig will be right there.
