Planting Design Service: Case Study

This client came to us via booking a consultancy service. This was the start of his journey with us. He wanted to convert a paddock area at the back of the garden into a natural pool and Nordic style hot tub with a focus on relaxation and nature.

Before

The garden features lush, layered planting that creates a soft, naturalistic feel around the hardscaping.

Around the pool edge and in the background, there is a mix of grasses, perennial flowers (some with purple and yellow accents), and low shrubs, offering texture and colour contrast. This planting style suggests a move towards a more naturalistic or meadow-like aesthetic.

In the foreground, there are vibrant green, leafy shrubs, and to the left, a striking evergreen pine tree with long needles.

The paddock area before

Around the pool edge and in the background, there is a mix of grasses and perennial flowers with lilac and ochre accents. The low shrubs, offering texture and colour contrast. This planting is very much prairie style, inspired by the Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf. The featured pine transports you to a more exotic setting, maybe Greece or Mexico.

Beyond the pool, there is a wooden hot tub or small structure nestled amongst the trees, suggesting another private relaxation area. The property is surrounded by mature, tall deciduous trees, providing a sense of seclusion and a natural backdrop. A light-coloured wooden fence or screen offers privacy on the left side.

Overall Atmosphere

The garden is bathed in bright sunlight, highlighting the deep green of the pool water and the vibrancy of the foliage. It conveys a strong sense of tranquility, modern design balanced with natural beauty, and a luxurious outdoor living space.
