Where to go when you need to get a grip? Paul Denoly and Nick Blaine, the creative couple behind housewares brand Hawkins New York, posed the question recently when they bought a 1970s house in Sea Ranch, the innovative planned community on the coast in Sonoma County, California. The two approached its remodel fully loaded with their signature tableware and bedding, but found they were short on a crucial detail: simple, modernist, built-to-last hardware.
After seeing the dearth of choices, they knew what to do: design it themselves. The Hawkins New York hardware collection has just debuted. Made in India of powder-coated steel, the clean-lined, versatile collection pays homage to simple 1970s designs. And, we’re delighted to note, comes in shades, such as mustard and olive, that haven’t been seen on drawer pulls or towel rods for decades.

They come with mounting hardware in the right color. The Simple Striped Terry Towels, $24 and $48, are also from Hawkins New York.
