Since its founding in 1943, IKEA has been a staple in many homes, because of its sleek, modern, and most importantly, affordable furniture offerings. The retailer’s STOCKHOLM collection has been an integral part of its history—in fact, it’s celebrating its 40th birthday this year.
Over the years, STOCKHOLM has gone through eight different editions, but IKEA says each iteration shares “the same defining characteristic: modern Scandinavian design of the highest quality, offered at an affordable price.”
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of STOCKHOLM, IKEA just released STOCKHOLM 2025, which features over 96 pieces of furniture, textiles, lighting, and accessories. For this collection, IKEA says thoughtfully chosen materials take center stage, from solid woods with tactile surfaces to handwoven wool rugs, mouth-blown glass, and handcrafted rattan.
“The purpose of the STOCKHOLM collections has always been to prove that high quality doesn’t need to come at an intimidating cost,” said Karin Gustavsson, Creative Leader for STOCKHOLM, in a press release. “We have worked to create a no-compromise kind of collection where every piece tells a story. Craftsmanship is at the heart of this project, where traditional techniques and hands-on methods have resulted in durable and beautiful design pieces that stand the test of time.”
