Nestled against the majestic peaks of Jämtland in Northern Sweden, this modern mountain cabin is a stunning example of harmonious design and natural beauty. Photographer Sophie Odelberg and her fiancé, Gustav, envisioned a sanctuary that reflects their deep connection to nature and love for an active lifestyle. Their dream became reality in this beautifully crafted retreat, designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
At the heart of this mountain cabin lies a bespoke kitchen by Nordiska Kök. Crafted from warm-hued oak, the kitchen features solid, rounded handles and custom cabinetry, balancing rustic charm with modern sophistication. The thoughtful design mirrors the textures of the surrounding landscape—pine walls, rustic wooden flooring, and a natural stone countertop enhance the cabin’s earthy aesthetic.

A standout feature is the built-in cabinet with ribbed glass, which reflects light and creates an airy feel. Additional smart design solutions, like a built-in shelf serving as a “service hatch,” showcase meticulous craftsmanship. Throughout the mountain cabin, the use of sustainable materials underscores the couple’s commitment to eco-conscious living.

Sophie shares, “The whole idea was to reimagine the barn-house style. Nature is an essential part of our lives, and we love being in it. It only felt right that if we were to build a house, a mountain home, it should reflect our values.”

The cabin was designed by Note Design Studio and built using Swedish heart pine. The result is a mountain retreat that not only complements the natural surroundings but also provides a tranquil escape.

For Sophie and Gustav, the kitchen is the heart of their mountain home—a welcoming space where friends and family gather to cook, share stories, and create lasting memories. With its ample workspace and social design, it embodies the warmth and togetherness that define a true mountain retreat.
This breathtaking mountain cabin is a perfect fusion of modern design and natural elements, offering a serene escape that inspires a deeper connection to the landscape. It’s a reminder of the tranquility that comes from living in harmony with nature—an aspiration many of us dream of turning into reality.
